Everything You Need To Know Before You Move To Buffalo

Aug 01 2017

A Lakeside City that has Much to Offer.

If you’ve thought about moving to western New York, be sure to keep Buffalo in mind. The city boasts delicious food, historic architecture and exciting cultural events. You can always find something new to do here. Buffalo’s practical benefits include great employment opportunities and low housing costs. Before you move, take the time to learn a few lesser-known facts about this city:

Festival

Locals have enjoyed the yearly Galbani Buffalo Italian Heritage Festival for more than three decades. It takes place on Fuhrmann Boulevard in July. The organizers normally schedule a beauty contest, live music and a bocce ball competition. If you have kids, they’ll appreciate the puppet show and craft activities. Exotic car enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the auto show; it features eye-catching vehicles from Italy.

Poltergeists

Horror movie fans may prefer to visit the Iron Island Museum on Lovejoy Street. This creepy attraction has appeared on a number of TV shows about ghosts. People say that guests might hear voices in the attic or encounter a “shadow woman” while touring the cellar. The exhibits include railway artifacts, an altar and various army uniforms. This 1885 building served as a funeral home and church in the past.

Shopping

After experiencing the eeriness of the haunted museum, you might feel an urge to do something “normal” like shopping for clothes. Buffalo offers numerous top-notch apparel retailers. Despite its name, the popular Allen Street Dress Shop features a wide range of garments and accessories. A store called Trend Up sells men’s clothing in the Market Arcade Complex. Most items come from Australia, Europe or California.

The Zoo

If you enjoy watching wildlife, remember to check out the Buffalo Zoo. Only two American zoos are older, according to Encyclopedia.com. The animals include crested toads, polar bears and clouded leopards. Be sure to visit the Beastro cafe when you get hungry. Many customers praise its BLTs and French fries. Other menu items range from tuna wraps to soft pretzels.

Cuisine

Eateries throughout the nation sell Buffalo wings, but they seldom rival the amazing chicken wings of western New York. They’re quite crispy, and restaurants usually include a delicious dipping sauce. After you’ve tried the wings, don’t forget to visit Ted’s Hotdogs, Paula’s Donuts and Five Points Bakery. You’ll enjoy excellent cinnamon buns at Five Points. This city also boasts over a dozen food trucks.

The bottom line is that Buffalo offers an exceptionally fun and interesting place to live. If you’re ready to move here, Ellicott Development can help.
