Coming Summer/Fall 2018: Rebirth of The Cooperage at 55 Chicago Street, Buffalo, NY
On February 2nd 2018, Ellicott Development Company closed on the purchase of the historic E. & B. Holmes Machinery Company Building Complex at 55 Chicago Street in Buffalo, NY. Portions of the remaining multi-structure complex were constructed as far back as 1870 and were historically used by the E. & B. Holmes Machinery Company for the manufacturing of wooden barrels and specialty woodworking machinery.
The multi-structure complex is comprised of three primary sections, which encircle a central courtyard. Last June, the City of Buffalo Preservation Board approved plans to demolish portions of the property that have suffered great and irreversible damage.
Through partial demolition and new construction, the former industrial property will see an incredible transformation delivering a vibrant mix of uses in an entertainment focused destination. Designed by CJS Architects, The Cooperage will include Buffalo’s Resurgence Brewing Company, a world class rock climbing facility operated by Central Rock Gym, 10 market-rate apartments and a distillery focused in barrel-aged spirits that will be announced at a later date. Additional retail space is still available!
Founded 4 years ago on the West Side, Resurgence Brewing Company’s new 25,000 square foot facility at The Cooperage will allow them to greatly increase production, expand their footprint throughout the State, and help revitalize the long vacant E. & B. Holmes Machinery Company complex.
“We have been looking for the right building in the city for a couple years now. This facility will allow us to meet local demand for our products and expand our offerings”, said Jeff Ware, President and founder. “The plan is to use the new brewery to more efficiently make our core brands, allowing us to focus more on innovation and small batch experimentation over at Niagara Street.”
The brewery will feature a 2-story tap room with food in the historic Pattern Building, banquet space for parties of all sizes, and beer gardens for guests to enjoy.
Founded in 2009, with 9 existing locations and 4 others in planning, Central Rock Gym’s new 21,000 square foot facility at The Cooperage will bring a world class indoor rock climbing, fitness and yoga facility to Buffalo!
The community centric facility will have over 300 linear feet of bouldering walls for beginners to advanced climbers, a kid specific climbing area ideal for birthday parties and events. In addition to the enormous climbing areas with walls up to 45 feet in height, there will be a work-out area with state of the art cardio machines: treadmills, ellipticals, spinners, rowers, step mills, and weight stations. The facility will also have yoga and fitness classes.
