Ellicott Development Co. has fine-tuned its plans for the former Cantalician Center property.
Company representatives will present their proposal for the Eggertsville landmark when it meets on June 19 with the Amherst Planning Board. The Buffalo-based developer wants to invest at least $6 million turning the former Eggert Road educational center into a mixed-use project anchored by 38 apartments. While Ellicott Development has tackled similar adaptive re-use projects in Buffalo, it would mark one of the first to take place in Amherst that is anchored with a residential component.
Besides the apartments, Ellicott Development hopes to bring between 5,000-square-feet and 8,000-square-feet of medical or office space to the building.
Planning board review is one of several public sector approvals Ellicott Development needs for the project. It is also seeking New York state historic tax credits.
“We’d like to start working in there by August,” said William Paladino, Ellicott president and CEO.
The still-to-be named project will have a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units plus a few loft-style apartments.
Ellicott Development bought the 63,000-square-foot build that sits on 4.1 acres of land from the Cantalician Center last year for $700,000. The Cantalician Center moved its operations to Depew.
The deal was put together by Anthony D’Auria and James Carminetti from Waterbourne Real Estate Advisors.
