Buffalo’s waterfront attracts more upscale housing

The coming of spring is likely to bring more new housing to Buffalo’s Waterfront, with a continuing demand to live on waterways.

The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency has awarded development rights for a site on Lakefront Boulevard to Ciminelli Real Estate.

For nearly 20-million dollars, Ciminelli is proposing 10 three-story townhouses and a four-story structure with 15-to-20-units. The plan also possibly includes an outdoor swimming pool. Executive Vice President Dennis Penman told the agency that work will probably start late this summer.

Ellicott Development C-E-O William Paladino says his firm has a couple of projects ready to go in the same area.

“We’ve got a couple of things going on down there. On Ojibwa Street, we’re looking at continuing our nine town homes and continuing the our original plan that we had submitted probably three or four years ago into the city to complete the town homes at the base of The Pasquale and Admiral’s Walk there. We’re going to start proceeding with that, hopefully in the next couple months. We’ll be in the Planning Board next month and then we’ll start designing and getting our building permits. We’d like to have those done by this fall.”

Paladino says Ellicott Development is still working through the process on The Carlo which would go up not far from the Ciminelli projects. That would be a 14-story, 75-million dollar mix of hotel, offices, apartments and retail.
